Dr. Hesham Atwa is a fellowship-trained laparoscopic and robotic surgeon with more than two decades of experience. Selected for an advanced minimally invasive surgery fellowship under renowned laparoscopic pioneer Dr. Phillip L. Leggett, he later became the first fellowship-trained laparoscopic surgeon practicing in the Port Jefferson community hospital setting.

Throughout his career, Dr. Atwa has performed more than 7,000 procedures and assisted fellow surgeons in over 3,500 additional cases. He is a leading specialist in robotic-assisted bariatric and general surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System, helping patients experience less pain, minimal scarring, and faster recovery. As an appointed proctor for Intuitive, the maker of the da Vinci system, he also trains and evaluates other surgeons learning advanced robotic techniques.
